Sailing & Diving
in the Costa Tropical!
Obviously all types of water sports are very popular here in the Costa Tropical but a favorite here is sailing. The waters here off the coast are known for being very clear and calm which makes for an excellent sailing experience. And, we have year round winds that come from the east or west depending on the day to provide you with more than adequate power behind your sails.
Popular sailing destinations from our coast would be further west to the popular Costa del Sol (packed with Marinas), to the east to the Cabo de Gata National Park (also equipped with beautiful marinas), further east to the Balearic Islands and finally sailing south towards Africa (Morocco). All of these locations have marinas, restaurants and overnight accommodations.
The Costa Tropical has two marinas of its own, the Marina del Este in La Herradura and the Motril Nautical Club in Motril.
Diving is also a very popular sport here. During a day at the beach you will see numerous divers going in and out of the water. There are also a large number of diving schools in the area with PADI qualified instructors. The waters off the Costa Tropical are a great place for diving because the underwater terrain is much like that above it, craggy and rocky. This creates a subaquatic world perfect for a large variation of fish species and corals. There are also a number of ship wrecks that can be explored not far off the coast. Make sure you have the right scuba gear too because the water can be very cold at times!
There are many other water sporting activities to be found in the Costa Tropical such as Boat Chartering, snorkeling, Water Skiing, Small Boat rental, Wind Surfing, Para Gliding and more. Most of these activities have companies who teach and rent our equipment in the local marinas, others are located right on one of the many local beaches. Below you will find a list of most of the local water sporting companies by activity:
