Torre de Velilla in Almuñécar

Almunecar Watchtowers Los Pinos

The Tower of Velilla, also known as the Torre del Hachuelo, is located on the hilltop of Velilla, in the Los Pinos urbanization, an area that the Phoenician people had once chosen to bury their loved ones.

The tower, dating to the 16th – 17th centuries, was built atop the remains of an ancient tower that was used as a beacon tower or communication tower. This tower communicated to its two closest neighbors, the Taramay Watchtower to the east and the Almunecar San Miguel Castle to the west.
