Playa Calahonda
Nerja's Most Photographed Beach! ➜ Home to the Balcón de Europa!
Out of all the Nerja beaches, Playa Calahonda is the most photographed and the one you see most often in travel brochures. Located in the heart of the Nerja old town it enjoys amazing views of the famous Balcón de Europa.
The unique beauty of Playa Calahonda comes from the fact that this tiny beach was once a port for local fisherman. They would cast their nets from the shores of Calahonda or set sail in their colorful boats in search of the days offering. Fishing equipment was stored in small houses carved out of the cliffs and rocks. Today, you can still see one of these charming little houses with its whitewashed exterior, blue door and trim, and a beautiful display of pink and red Geraniums.
If you are thinking of spending your next holiday in Nerja, keep reading to find out why Playa Calahonda might be the best beach for you and your family to enjoy!

** Enjoying Playa Calahonda During the Summer
While visiting Playa Calahonda take a stroll along some of the recently renovated promenades. The city of Nerja has been working hard on building a seafront promenade that will run the length of the Nerja coastline and connect all the Nerja beaches. Currently the Calahonda section of this promenade has been completed. You can walk from Playa Calahonda, past Playa la Caletilla, all the way to Playa el Salón.
Going in the other direction, behind Playa Calahonda, you can take the 'Paseo de los Carabineros' until it reaches Playa Chorrillo. The renovation has not yet progressed beyond that point, but it will soon connect with Playa Carabeo the next beach going east.
The walks are short, but you will find many great opportunities for beautiful photos of the dark blue Mediterranean and the famous Balcón de Europa.
